Introduction To Marine Watertight Door-1

2025-05-09

Marine watertight doors are one of the core components of a ship's safety system. They are mainly used to isolate cabins, prevent the spread of water, fire or toxic gases, and ensure the non-sinking of the ship and the safety of personnel. Its design needs to take into account high strength, high sealing performance and ease of operation, and is widely used in various types of ships such as warships, merchant ships and submarines.

1. Function and Classification

1)Core functions

Waterproofing and fireproofing: Through sealing structures (such as rubber gaskets, multi-layer steel plates), the spread of water or flames across compartments is prevented. Some high-end models (such as hydraulic hinge fireproof doors) simultaneously meet the fire protection standard of ISO 17941:2015.

2) Structural strength

The door body needs to match the strength of the adjacent hull. The circular spherical door of the submarine's pressure-resistant bulkhead can withstand deep-water pressure, while the bulkhead of the common type mostly adopts rounded rectangular doors.

2. Classification method

By operation type:

- Hinge type: Commonly found in regular compartments, the sealing material is tightly pressed by a wedge-shaped handle. It can be operated from both sides and has a lightweight structure.

- Sliding type: Suitable for space-constrained areas (such as from engine room to axle tunnel), it needs to be equipped with a hydraulic or electric control system and complies with the CB/T 3007-2011 industry standard.

- By usage scenario:

Type A: It can be kept on on a daily basis and turned off in an emergency.

Type B: Normally closed state, only temporarily opened during cabin operations.

Type C: Fully closed, only temporary passage is allowed.
